Electric Vehicle Charging Station Incentive

To help our members embrace the future of clean energy, we're offering an incentive for the installation of residential Level 2 (240-volt) smart charging stations for all-electric vehicles.

Qualifying members can receive a $300 incentive after meeting our specific requirements:

1. Be a Benton REA member who owns and receives electrical service at the dwelling in which the equipment will be installed

2. Purchase and install a residential Level 2 (240-volt) smart charging station for your all electric vehicle (hybrid vehicles do not qualify)

3. Set the charging delay to a time determined by Benton REA (such as 10 p.m.)

4. Allow Benton REA to perform final inspection

5. Following final site inspection and approval of the paperwork, Benton REA shall process an incentive payment of $300 to you, the member

The following are requirements to be eligible for the incentive:

1. Must be a Benton REA member with an active electric account.

2. Must be the owner of the home or business where your electric vehicle is charged.

3. Purchase an Electric Vehicle ($100 incentive if vehicle is purchased prior to Level 2 charger installation or a $50 incentive if vehicle is purchase after Level 2 charger installation) or Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle ($25 incentive). Please provide proof of purchase by providing a copy of your receipt.

4. Provide all required information on application.

5. Allow Benton REA to install an AMI (Advanced Meter Infrastructure) or equivalent automated meter on your home or business. This is not required if the incentive is for a Plug-In Hybrid.

6. Upon final approval of application, a check for the incentive amount will be paid to you.

Benton REA offers low-interest program loans to cover the purchase and the installation costs of up to $2,000. Loans are at an interest rate of 5%, amortized over a maximum of three years and are available for members who meet the incentive requirements listed above, plus the following requirements:

1. Have all accounts with Benton REA current and no more than one delinquent notice per account in the last 12 months

2. If requesting funds in advance of purchase and installation, provide Benton REA with an estimate for the purchase and installation. Member has 60 days upon receiving advanced loan funds for installation and final site inspection to be completed

3. If requesting funds after installation, provide Benton REA with a receipt for purchase and installation. Following final inspection, Benton REA shall process the loan funds to be paid to you, the member

4. Loan funds will be secured by your electric service and delinquency of loan payments will subject your account to the Association’s policy regarding delinquency of payment.

5. Proof of income (most recent payroll check stub) is required for all loan applications greater than $1,000

Charging Station Loan Terms
1. Recipient must be a Benton REA member in good standing with no more than one delinquent payment

2. Must meet all requirements of the electric vehicle charging station incentive

3. Agree to a 5% interest rate

4. Agree to lean that is a maximum of five years, non-transferable

5. The electric service must be used as collateral on the loan

Washington EV (Electric Vehicle) Instant Rebate Program

The Washington State Department of Commerce has launched the state’s Washington EV Instant Rebates Program, with funding through June 2025, or until all funds are used. The program is expected to deliver between 6,500 and 8,000 rebates.

The program is focused on supporting low-income residents, and provides between $2,500 and $9,000 off at the time of purchase or lease of a qualified vehicle.

  • WA residents making 300% or below of the federal poverty level.

Washington State EV Sales Tax Exemption

Beginning Aug. 1, 2019, a sales and use tax exemption for new or used clean alternative fuel and certain plug-in hybrid vehicles is available.

Qualifying vehicles
The exemption is applied to the sales price or fair market value when you purchase or lease a passenger car, light duty truck, or medium duty passenger vehicle that is powered exclusively by a clean alternative fuel or capable of traveling at least 30 miles using only battery power.

In addition, the vehicle must be sold or valued at $45,000 or less if new and $30,000 or less if used.

Federal Tax Credit for New & Used Electric Vehicles

A federal tax credit is available for new and used electric vehicles that meet requirements specified in Internal Revenue Code Section 30D.

New Vehicle Clean Credit up to $7,500.
You may qualify for a credit up to $7,500 if you buy a new, qualified plug-in EV. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 changed the rules for this credit for vehicles purchased from 2023 to 2032. Information about new vehicles purchased in 2022 and before or for vehicles purchased in 2023 and after.

Used Vehicle Clean Credit up to $4,000.
Beginning January 1, 2023, if you buy a qualified used electric vehicle (EV) from a licensed dealer for $25,000 or less, you may be eligible for a used clean vehicle tax credit. The credit equals 30% of the sale price up to a maximum credit of $4,000. Additional Details.

The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. You can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.

Starting in January 2024, an Inflation Reduction Act provision allows consumers to transfer the tax credit to car dealers, reducing the purchase price of eligible new and used vehicles at the time of sale.
